Sukkary Dates were known in the city of Basra, Iraq more than 1200 years ago, and then moved centuries later due to settlement to the Qassim region in Saudi Arabia. The dates soon became famous there!
The word “Sukkary” sounds like “sugar". In Arabic, it means “the sweet one” Sukkary dates are dry, sweet, and have a unique caramel-like flavor.
This variety is popular, and is often referred to as "royal dates".
